So, seriously, what is it with this guy? No male I've ever spoken to regards him with anything but complete and utter love/respect/devotion. It's like this man can do no wrong where men are concerned. And, as I'm lacking a penis here, I really don't get the hype! I get he drives cars. Many. Fast. I get he's pushing the "past-it" label yet wears a leather jacket. I get that his voice is one of the most annoying on the planet, rivalled only by Lloyd Grossman and Janet Street Porter. But seriously, why is he this god-like creature to everyone I've spoken to? I don't want to be out of the loop just cos I have boobs!

i do kinda respect him, tho not quite to the degree you said. i dont think there is anything to get really, the car thing is also about liking cars and the show top gear, not particularly bothered about the leather jacket and ive heard worse voices, but i just think hes a pretty cool guy, and kinda funny too

i'm one of the clan that likes him. I think it's the main fact that he's a bloke's bloke. Not the kind that swills beer, and chins the nearest person , but that he's got a good life, and he's still quite down to earth with it. I've been reading his 'The World According to Clarkson' book recently, and it's vwery funny - a cynical, satirical view of the world, and things that happen in everyday life. He's a Marmite person - you eithe rlove him, or hate him. I love him, personally. (not like that )

He's okay. His show is informative and fun if you like cars and his tone can be amusing at times.

So in order to be worshipped by men, you need: -to not be a loutish tw*t -crap leather coat -bad hair -grating voice -the ability to drive a car -a team of top and ultimately bored researchers to think up random things to do with potatoes and microwaves, just to make you look "cool" on tv... -Ben Elton gagged in your wardrobe writing your scripts
Anymore?

It would be worse if he wore a biker jacket. I don't see what all the fuss about his coat stems from.

i would say soothing... but seriously, its not so much how he acts that makes him so good. for me it's the passion he has for everything he does, and the knowledge of cars he holds is immense. i kinda find it funny that a man who is such a dork can be worshipped by so many people... but he is worshipped rightly.

It would be worse if he wore a biker jacket. I don't see what all the fuss about his coat stems from. I've made just as much a "fuss" over his voice as his jacket, calm down. It just makes me think he's going to pull up to me in the jacket, on his Harley, do a (as Cartman calls it) "finger bang" and go "cool, cats" at whatever vehicle I might be in. *shudders* And that thought makes me want to vomit, hence my dislike of his jacket. for me it's the passion he has for everything he does, and the knowledge of cars he holds is immense. Aha! Passion, now we're getting somewhere! This is what I meant: something that he possesses rather than what a team of researchers/scriptwriters/image consultants can throw at him!

Nah, I've heard other people make leather jacket references. Not just you.

He is a very clever, and knowledgeable man, and although sometimes, he does become an arrogant git, he is still largely doing his job because he enjoys it. He's apssionnate about it...he's worked hard to get where he is, as he was a local journalist up north somewhere. He's one of these guys you could imagine going for a pint with, and putting the world to rights.

Personally I find Jeremy Clarkson very funny and even though I can't drive and I know nothing whatsoever about cars I find Top Gear entertaining.
