Not to worry you all, but 72% of us might not be here in a year or so's time, *melodrama* due to a strain of bird flu that's currently sweeping Asia and mutating itself to not only spread to cats and humans, but to evade modern medicine. Vaccines are being made as we speak, but ye may want to be even more careful of catching that winter cold, this year... Read more here

Sorry! I hadn't heard about it on the news (non-TV-watching-me that I am),but I stumbled across it in the zombie community... And I have to say, it got me worried, too.

Never had normal flu... so won't be panicking just yet. Panicking is bad for the immune system. I expect some scientist created it 'accidentally'... They'll find a way to fix it. They better had anyway!

i think thats the problem though, they can't find anything to stop it. and when they think they're making prgress, it changes so it can get around it.. it started a bird thing, its already changed alot to jump to humans. its gonna change alot more in the future.

Yeah, it does. In the article, it said that 2 million doses were being made, by order of the govt. But this doesn't mean that only 2 million people can be treated, however. It's more a case of "make up the vaccines. Send off these samples to manufacturers to copy, and thus mass-produce them in preparation for the possibility of it spreading." Hopefully it won't come to that, though.

i read on teletext they had 14million doses they also say 1 in 4 britons could be affected by it eventually, although they are not predicting such a high death-rate. they're also stockpiling vaccines to stop the spread human to human should that occur, and those will be given to police officers etc. people who are out and about more.

Update:Mortality rate now 80% Will probs hit Britain in 2 years. Vaccines are not against the flu thing itself, but are generic virus vaccines. They can't make a vaccine against this particular one until it's spread further and they've seen what mutations it can go through. Now, who has confidence in the British govt and the NHS, eh?
