It's in aid of Wessex Neurological Centre. I don't know much about it, but the description of the bands looked interesting so I might go. Not sure about Bolt Thrower though after listening to some samples on the internet... not to my taste!

The first concert was a bit cack, but was an ok night because I had some decent company. The second concert was actually rather fun - I couldn't make out any words but it was fun. ;D

I couldn't make out any words but it was fun. ;D I always seem to have that problem at gigs - unless i know the band, and the song the venue's p*ss poor acoustics ruin the words. In the case of Les Incompetantes at the Barfly a while ago, i didnt miss much

I was glad of the shoddy acoustics when Les Incompetants played! It meant their "music" (read "utterly vile noise") was smushed into one big annoying screech-drone hybrid - made it easier to ignore and play some Be Your Own Pet in my head.

There's a heat of a beatbox championships tonight at a local club to me but alas, I am saving, and this goes on quite late at night... I hope to go to the next similar event though. They're having breakdancers as well.

Brand New's only UK tour date(taken from a MySpazz bulletin) "BN will be returning to England for one show at London Brixton Academy on Saturday 9th September with special guests Say Anything. It looks very likely that this will be the only UK/European show from Brand New in 2006... the guys want to do a proper tour and it just does not look possible for this year (due to USA tour plans this Autumn). They wanted to get at least one trip over before the album drops, which is looking like late September/early October. If you want to see BN in 2006 then this is your safest bet. Tickets will be on sale this Saturday the 17th through your normal ticket joints. All tickets are 12.50 (that's pounds and pence but our computer doesn't make those signs). A word of caution: the USA shows sold out fast!" Just thought some people who might've otherwise missed out might like toknow.

At the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton they're having a production of Disney's version of Beauty and the Beast during August. As my birthday is in August I might go to the theatre for a change as I haven't been to one since my sixth form days.

That play was really good btw. I enjoyed it a lot. Very good set pieces and acting. The songs were really well performed, and I think they adapted it slightly to show the beast as more of an innocent boy. Unless my memory of the film is shoddy, which it could be.

I've been to a couple of gigs recently. The first was Hed (P.E) supported by Weapons and OPM at Nexus Club Southampton on 4th October. I caught the end of Weapons's set and they were ok but didn't really engage me. They were competant musicians but needed a little something extra. Next up was the reason for me going: OPM. I only really knew of Heaven Is A Halfpipe, a song I found ok at the time, but as it had been so long since I had attended a gig I thought I'd check them out. I was very pleased with their set and enjoyed it a lot. The music was played well and it caught me up in a suitable party spirit. Then towards the end it was especially nice to hear their most famous song live, and they didn't disappoint. The main act Hed (P.E.) so it turns out have tunes played fairly regularly in local clubs unbeknown to me and I was surprised at how many of them were familiar to me. Their set was of a decent standard but ironically I felt it was spoilt by the singer's indecent comments about young girls. That sort of killed the mood for me. Then more recently, last night, October 17th, I attended a hardcore punk gig at Nexus. Seeing as I hate punk generally this was a serious gamble. However, I was looking for something to do on my Tuesday night and thought I might possibly catch up with a friend but he wasn't actually going(!). Within 20 mins my head was hurting, and I am no stranger to heavy noise so just what those support bands were churning out goodness only knows. I was kept awake by a friendly old punk rocker who started chatting to me and told me if I like punk I will probably like the main act. Well, generally I don't like punk, but I did find The Exploited quite entertaining. I couldn't make out many words to the songs, and they sounded simple, but the hooks and grooves in the music from the bassist and guitarist did have me tapping my boot and nodding my head almost contentedly. I did come away from that concert learning a few things (mostly things to avoid!) but one thing stands out. Having a good bass section can make a lot of difference, and for me the main act at this concert had the edge over their supports as they were backed up by musicians who could play more than the just three chords, type thing. The singer, (or should that be shouter?) interacted with the crowd well and most people seemed to be thoroughly enjoying their set. I won't be attending another concert like this again, but that is simply because my ears might not recover next time.
