lately, i've been finding myself becoming more and more interested in early/not so early nu-metal. the genre which is the butt of all jokes. people can take the p*ss if they wish, but there were a few decent bands out there which played nu-metal. before Mr Durst and his pack of tw*ts killed everything about it.
Razorwire are a good British rap-metal band. fairly firmly in the nu-metal genre, but getting good reviews. One Minute Silence also weren't that bad.
there are nu-metal bands who deserve to be shot though, namely Disturbed who continue to get success from the same old, tired riffs and crap lyrics.
but yeah, i don't know what i'm getting at here. maybe that just cos a few bands gave it a bad name, doesn't mean the genre sucks...
the same goes for Emo. Saetia were a great band, but now will be forgotten because of the music they played, which has become tainted by the likes of Taking Back Sunday and Coheed and Cambria, who while making good music, have made taken the whole Emo thing and rubbed it in some kind of watering down powder.

Nu-metal is one of those genres I find has the odd song I like but overall I find it rather dull.
The few songs I like in the genre include: Disturbed - The Sickness Korn - Freak On A Leash Limp Bizkit - Rollin' (if I'm bored enough to want to dance to a song with it's own preset dance routine... funnily enough I hated it until I learned the dance...) Drowning Pool - Bodies
Does The Union Underground count? I find their brand of rock quite posery but fun.
Oh and I forgot Slipknot. I find their sound generally overprocessed and Corey rasps too much for my taste but if I can tune in past that, into the guitar lead bits and that I can quite enjoy it.

I got into rock, and alternative music through Nu-metal - my sis bought me Limp Bizkit's 'Chocolate Starfish & The Hot Dog Flavoured Water' one Christmas, and i really liked it - it went from there - Linkin Park, Slipknot, Blink 182, Sum 41 etc. I still listen to some of these, however, i can't say that i really like a lot of the songs - maybe a few rom Sum 41's 'All Killer, No Filler', and From Hybrid Theory, by Linkin Park. Disturbed however...i never thought a riff could be recycled so often

Disturbed however...i never thought a riff could be recycled so often they are laughably dull... i also got into rock the limp bizkit/linkin park route. i still like linkin park a fair bit too, but limp bizkit do my head in. i only listened to 'take a look around' off chocolate starfish anyway. but they in turn got me into sum 41, slipknot, ffaf and eventually killswitch.. and now here i am now.. slightly obsessed by music.

I have to admit to liking Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit.
