I was talking to a friend of a friend last week in a pub and it seems a lot of us get to learn a bit of the recorder... just wondering what instruments people have played, and if you too, learned recorder for a while? Stuff I've dabbled in: recorder... kettle drum (in class ) and probably other percussive intruments but I felt more confident on a drum and enjoyed it. Keyboard... had to have some lessons to get through my GCSE... have since worked out one of the tunes I learned on to my guitar... which was cool... ... and my main instrument now is guitar. I do own a harmonica but I've never learned to play it correctly although I did invent my own style of playing when I was 12, hehe. Sounded kind of accordion-esque. ;D

recorder in primary school, like everyone. then had a few keyboard lessons but i walked out cos the teacher said i had "no talent". stupid bitch.. then had a years worth of lessons with the Clarinet in secondary school, only signed up cos it'd get me out of Geography once a week. but gave that up when i dropped out of school and now i remember absolutely nothing about it. although i can kind of read music still. i own an old guitar, don't know what it is, or how to play it. Edit: she also said i spent too much time "arsing about" then learning...

Aye, I learnt recorder. Nothing else though, mind, unless you count music lessons in Secondary school learning how to play keyboards. *shrugs* I found reading music hard, thus nothing ever really took off.

Aye there are many bits that are involved in that. I remember picking up the basics easily but, once you go beyond g or a on the musical stage (from middle c at the bottom) I get panicky and stuck and can't read and arrrggghhh, etc. I don't know my notes on a guitar though so notation theory is pretty useless to me at the moment, although I have noticed patterns... hence I was able to come up with a recogniseable version of something I originally learned on keyboard. The main melody from Beethoven's Ode To Joy.

RECORDER!! Hell yeah. Also flute, which I took for six years. Keyboard, what I worked out how to use myself. Piano, very little.
