Do you ever listen to parents or grandparents tell stories of when they could see certain acts, now very famous, at places such as their local cinema? My mum has recalled more than once how the likes of Acker Bilk and Cliff Richard (I think... I know she's not a fan so she might not have seen him) used to play the old cinemas. Wouldn't it be great if bands could play in places like these again, so that communities actually have thriving venues whether they be in the City or in a little rural area. Where I'm from they had... maybe 3 picture houses when my mum was young... now we have to travel 8 miles or more to the nearest one. 10 or more if you live outside town in the villages. It strikes me a bit sad really that with the blockbuster multiplexes we no longer have community venues. Even with the increased popularity of tv and internet, if venues could diversify, and perhpas be host to more than one form of attraction, then maybe they could work again. What are your thoughts/experiences?
