What purchases have you been disappointed with lately?
I recently bought Tony Iommi's (Black Sabbath's axe slinger) solo album, and was expecting some exciting guitar playing, but on listening I find it mediocre for someone of his standard. The riffs are forgettable and whilst the musicianship is highly competant the album overall lacks oompf. Some of the tracks show some sign of promise but generally don't deliver what one expected from one of the greatest pioneers of metal. I suggest next time Tony finds a permanent lineup and puts some excitement into the music. All the guests incl. Bryan May and Philip Anselmo can't save this from the depths of distinctly average-ness.
Maybe it'll improve on further listens, but I don't think it will. This could have ben truly great, but, it's not.
