This film is pretty big in our family - I had a special night in front of the tv last night - I cleaned the lounge especially for it, and prayed my flatmate and his guests wouldn't mess it up when he had people over in the day... there was loo roll left on the table (we had run out of kitchen paper but Ian doesn't take responsibility for replenishing things and instead expects me to bail him out...) and omg a small piece of paper on my nicely hoovered carpet! ;D
Heart attacks and sodding evil flatmates who don't lift a hand to help, aside, snacks at the ready and tv switched on, on schedule, I had a great evening watching people dancing and wishing people did that in real life, instead of wallowing in apathy and getting trashed/stoned etc and shagging people they can't stand etc... okay so real life isn't always like that, but in the circles I move in, I do get pretty frustrated with people's "I can't enjoy myself naturally!" mentality.
Dance is something I feel is very underrated. There was a time when people could hold hands in public and lead each other round a floor. Now it seems to be largely same sex groups getting drunk and waiting for a miracle, and not doing things together.
Before I get really rambly, I'd just like to say that I think we can all learn a little from the "magic" if you will, of dancing with other people (unless you're gay and prefer your own sex), and gain a lot of pleasure from this sociable activity which can be a lot of fun!
I think, sometimes the reason for people not dancing together anymore, is not just because we don't get taught it, but that dance requires trust, and whilst most people could bluff their way through a slow dance at the very least, because we live in a less communal society, people don't let themselves go without the aid of drugs and are less confident about things like dancing as less people do it. If "everyone" still did it, it would be less of an issue. People are more hung up about themselves for whatever reason and say "I can't!", but you CAN.
Of course, I know some people still do what they want to do, and fair play to them. Keep the dance alive.
