Well it's that time again. Big Brother. Series 6 now, I believe. How such drivel has had so much success I will never know. Another 12 random people being thrust into minor celebrity stardom for two months, and forgotton about soon after.
Dull boring television with little or no imagination. Once original, once new and innovative. Now mediocre at best. Impossible to avoid without going into a coma, and so I will have to catch a few 'episodes' to find out who I'll be force-fed via the media during the summer.
Reality TV has had it's short lived day.. and, although there are a few shows floating around on TV at the moment, they're all following the steps of Big Brother and countless unemployed people and students will no doubt be glued to this 'riveting new-age television'. To quote The Cat Empire: "Some like watching people living on TV... that's a little strange".
However, Lads Army was different. In principal the same, following people about their lives, but their lives were changed drastically throughout the programme, so much so that the people themselves were unrecognisable in both phsyical appearance and mental state come the end. But it's had its run... would another series simply be a passport to 'celebrity status'? With Lads Army.. probably not. I certainly can't find any of last years 'soldiers' on TV. The two Corporals have had a small amount of exposure but they're something different. That's what Big Brother was until the bosses decided it was easy money.
Will you be watching? Or avoiding as best you can? I suppose it's tempting to say 'if you can't beat them, join them'. Maybe it will be 'different' this year...
