Heheh, me too. He didn't want to be "pigeon-holed" apparently. But the bloke's built up enough of a repertiore and is good enough an actor for that not to happen, I would have thought.
I did watch it last night. The best bit was probably Zoe Wanamaker making an appearance (even if only vocally). Oh, and the prospect of Billie Piper making an early exit from the series (which sadly didn't happen). Seriously, the more I see of that show, the more she annoys me with her "drama school taught me than whenever anything isn't peachy, I have to do a fish impression" approach, which means her mouth is constantly open.

I think it's awful. Maybe it has something to do with me not being a Dr. Who fan to begin with, but I fail to see why some people are raving about it as they are.
The acting is appalling - Billie Piper is as wooden and lairy at the same time as you can get without imploding with the contradictions. She is annoying and overdramatic, and has about the acting potential as a plank of wood with a big grinning face smacked on its side.
The guy who plays Dr Who is no better, and seems to waver between smug and cheesy, to dead serious and over the top in the 'look at me I'm cool, yeah I am' stakes. His voice sounds forced and unnatural and I just want to throttle the fellow. Along with the rest of the cast.
The script is dire - when the acting is meant to be natural, it sounds like they are reading from a book, when it is dramatic, it is cliche ridden and makes me cringe. I am embarassed for them, to be honest.
Special effects? Perhaps better than average. About the only good thing in the show - although making an old lady's head flash blue was just bordering on silly. Added to that, the plot is dull and predictable and fails to reinvigorate any 'wow, Dr. Who OMGWTFBBQ!!1', and you have my (Low) opinion of this.
As I said, this may be the whole point of the series - badly acted, badly scripted, badly moving and boring cheesefest - I am well aware the original series had special effects that looked like a two year old had been set loose with a load of toilet rolls and tissue paper, but if the massive hype and speculation was about this show being somehow good in any way, to be frank, it is utter crap.

It's a bit theatrical at times but I wouldn't go that far. It's a lot more fun than the previous series, but, hmmmmm... revealing what was inside a darlek does remove some of the mystery which I'm not sure was a good idea. It was a bit Hollywood on that note.
